The soaring prices of oil and gas supplies has made even the most well off individuals to sit up and take notice of the fact. In such an industry where things keep on changing on a regular basis, a career can prove to be an equally challenging one. But it is not about hard work alone and you can expect to reap some rich rewards for jobs in oil and gas industry. People who already have some sort of experience in the industry can expect a handsome pay package.

While recruiting for oil rigs, companies prefer to go for experienced candidates who have prior experience of working in such locations and in the face of unfavorable conditions. Entry level jobs are available in positions like deckhands and roustabouts. These are well paid jobs and also do not require you to possess a number of degrees.

You can start off with a job in the oil rigs and then gradually gather adequate experience over the years to reach a certain position. There are several recruitment agencies that conduct recruitment for these positions. You can submit your resume online and they can forward it to the respective companies where there are appropriate vacancies matching your profile. If you know of someone who is working in the industry, then you can forward your resume to the individual and expect to get a job through a referral scheme.

If you are interested in offshore job opportunities, then it is necessary that you make an assessment of your strengths and limitations before applying for the job. Most of these jobs prove to be physically taxing. So the selection procedure for the position involves physical examination. If you are selected for the position, then you should be ready to spend months away from your family and loved ones.

Developing Smart Meters

July 26th, 2010

Smart meters, as the name suggests, have been devised quite smartly to precisely indicate the consumption of electricity and gas in a particular household. It is estimated that almost every home in Britain will have a smart meter within the next decade. The roll-out of these smart meters comes in an attempt to monitor the usage of energy at the very basic level. This also implies that there will be an automatic increase in smart metering jobs.
Smart meters are installed with an additional electricity meter. One of these serves as the ‘host’ meter that is expected to furnish the details to both the supplier and the consumer. The responsibility of the installation of these meters rests with the energy companies. Meter data management systems are also a vital component of the entire smart grid infrastructure and therefore being increasingly used by utility companies.
All the MDMS or meter data management systems can do the billing and the validation part, but what most utility companies require out of these systems is much more functionality. Developers of these systems have to keep in mind factors such as asset management, system analysis support, actionable intelligence, outage management support and customer presentment. Applicants for meter data management system jobs thus have to bear all these factors in mind.
The ideal profile for meter data management and smart grid jobs is that of engineers. A few years of experience in the sector can improve your chances of making it big in the industry. A specialization in electrical engineering holds the candidate in a good stead. Most of the companies have a demand for certified meter data managers who are aware of how the system works. Registering with your resume on job portals or applying through referrals can help you to make the cut in the smart metering jobs.

Creating Web Service Systems

July 26th, 2010

Creating a web services system requires quite an effort. The services need to be made highly accessible, reliable, and scalable. It should be functional at all levels. These requirements are not much different from that of any enterprise application. Both Java and .Net are developments on the existing application server technology that is used for developing enterprise applications. The former editions were not used for the purpose of developing web services.

Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition has been used for developing server-side deployments in the Java programming language. It is used to develop software components, regular websites and packaged applications. This has been used to provide support for web services based on XML. These services can ensure interoperability with other services that may not have been scripted in the standard format.

On the other hand, Microsoft’s .Net is a suite that facilitates organizations to create enterprise class web service programs. This suite facilitates language-interoperability and language-independence and is therefore a basic and most interesting feature of the .Net platform.

No matter whichever platform you choose, it is necessary to be trained in the respective domains for succeeding in both .Net jobs and Java developer jobs. It is necessary to acquire training in J2EE and in case of .Net acquire OO training. On paper, the scalability of both these solutions is unlimited.

It is always advisable to hire a programmer who is trained in these domains to create a web service program that is based on any of the frameworks. A certified course can help you to bag a position as a programmer and fetch a good package. Years of experience in the industry can also offer good placement opportunities as the requirement for such candidates is only going to increase in the coming years. You can apply for jobs in the field if your profile is similar to the one required for the job.

Hiring the wrong person for the job is a costly mistake because of the time and energy put into hiring and training. Employers need to find answers to three questions during their interview process:

1. Does this person have the skills to perform the job?
2. Will this person be responsible?
3. Does this person fit into our culture?

Focus your interview on answering the Big Three:

* Let the employer know you can do this job – show them you have the necessary skills and abilities. Give them examples of how you would perform the skills needed, including suggested accommodations.

Job search website: HACKED!

April 10th, 2010

by: Christine Zafra

The internet seems to be perfect. Not until hackers try to penetrate it.

17.jpg

A recent happening in the online job aggregate Jobs.ie stirred the wits out of every registered user in the said website. It is an Irish site, small compared to other job aggregates, but no matter what the size of the company is, hackers didn’t care.

The hackers penetrated the system of Jobs.ie and stole resumes from their database. The management was quick to act and called all their members that such mishap happened (to prevent future scams since the hackers already have a copy of their resume).

In light of the recent Jobs.ie breach which was disclosed within 24 hours of occurrence, Galvin said there are many more that go unreported: “I know for a fact that leaks much bigger than the Jobs.ie leak happen every day but they are not disclosed.” Added to this, scammers have got wise to the fact that the resume is a very rich source of information.
