Three Common Things That Make An Employee Stay

I remember a story I heard from a former boss on his farewell party speech. “When I first started on this job, I used to work because I loved the job. Then as the years went by, work started to become a routine, and so did the demands for a higher pay. Now, all I look forward to are our Friday night hanging out sessions. It has been a wonderful 15 years, and all of you will be greatly missed. But I think it’s now time to move on.”

Whether for big shot travel booking companies with a cool domain names or for social networking sites, there are usually three things that make an employee stay in a company.

1) Work. A lot of young professionals start on their careers all hyped up with getting right down to their jobs. And they usually do. People who do what they love doing end up being quite happy and content with their work.

2) Money. Blessed are those who get the salary they asked for. Nowadays, not only are are employees competing against each other for a good salary and position, but employers are competing to keep their trained employees as well. Employers who keep their employees financially satisfied have a higher chance of keeping them put in the office.

3) People. Being the social beings that we are, employee relationships have become a vital aspect of having a work-life balance in the office. Team buildings, workshops, company outings and the like, are a part of giving hardworking employees the “break” they deserve. And for the most part, these activities are what helps keep people happy at work.
